COMPLETE AIR RIDE KITS
Most people
tend to ask us the same questions about our air ride kits,
so we decided to put together this question/answer FAQ to
provide the answers to the common questions...
"How
does it ride?"
Thanks to the adjustability of the Koni Sport shocks and struts,
you can control the damping which results in a very firm ride
or softer ride. The air springs give a firm but controlled
ride not much different than the ride quality of a top quality
coil over setup.
"How
low will it go?"
We designed our systems to go as low as physically possible
while still using some of the common OEM components (upper
strut mounts/bearings, rear spring mounts, etc) and without
cutting up your car. Each kit will go very low.
Our front strut
housings now feature threaded bodies with height-adjustable,
billet aluminum lower bag seats so you can fine-tune
ride height to your taste. Since tire-to-bag clearance is
at a premium in the front, this adjustability allows you to
go as low as possible with your particular tire/wheel combination.
"How
high will it go?"
We realize there are situations where you need to raise your
car up higher than normal just to get into a tight area. As
a rule of thumb, our kits all offer about 6-8" of articulation
(fully deflated vs fully inflated). This will raise your car
above stock ride height.
"How
will my car handle with an air ride suspension?"
We think they handle and ride great! To help that bold statement
make a bit more sense, you have to take into consideration
that not all air ride kits are created equal. We designed
our kits to live in the real world. We wanted each kit to
have performance handling characteristics while giving the
options to drop to the ground or raise up to drive into a
steep driveway.
All of our kits implement
an 8-valve air management system. This provides complete control
of the effective spring rate at each corner of the vehicle
by providing separate "fill" and "release"
circuits for each air bag. Cheaper 4-valve kits (or "front-back")
use one fill and one release valve per axle. This creates
a dangerous and ill-handling system where the air is free
to travel back and forth between the left and right wheel
air bags. Under hard cornering, this forces the air from the
outside wheel air bag into the inside wheel air bag, acting
in the opposite manner of an anti-sway bar.
"Who
makes your components?"
All of the moving parts are made in the USA by extremely reputable
manufacturers in the industry. All of our designs are proprietary
and designed as bolt-in replacements for your original suspension.
Air bags are manufactured for us by Univeral Air and struts/shocks
are all Koni Sport Adjustable and Airlift. We use only Viair
compressors for total reliability. Many of the components
are CNC-machined in-house to our exacting specs.
"Will
the air bags blow out ?"
Modern technology has brought air ride into the 21st century!
As long as nothing unusual is touching or rubbing on the bag,
they should last for years and years. The polymer composition
is very resistant to oil and other substances that typically
break down rubber compounds. They are heavily reinforced and
highly resistant to abrasion, as well.
"Can
theFront struts be rebuilt?"
Yes they can. Our modular construction allows the front struts
to be rebuilt if the need ever arises.
"What
options do I have?"
Now you can choose the level of damping you'd like from your
shocks!
